Electric Vehicle Charging

EValu8 were at this month’s Low Carbon Vehicle Event organised by Cenex, the UK’s first centre of excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies.

As well as some great exhibitors, each of the two days offered a comprehensive range of seminars.

Presentations were given by industry experts, covering interesting, current topics such as:

  • LCV technology developments
  • Realising innovation and growth in the UK
  • Global trends in the automotive sector
  • Developing low carbon supply chains

There was also some lively debate about the next steps in LCV policy and a chance to explore low carbon export opportunities.

The event was a huge success, with an expo of businesses with inspiring, environmentally friendly products and ideas taking place during the afternoon. There were plenty of Electric Vehicles to have a close look at too. The Awards Dinner took place in the evening, when this year’s winners were announced. Well done to all the finalists and especially our deserving winner!

Green Pope's Electric Vehicle

Pope Benedict XVI continues to show his support for environmentally friendly innovations. He is already involved in a project to offset carbon dioxide emissions… now he has ‘green’ transport, courtesy of Renault, the French car manufacturer.

The pontiff is using the customised white Kangoo Maxi van within the grounds of the Vatican and also his summer home, Castel Gandolfo. (It doesn’t meet the bullet-proof requirements of a Popemobile.) The vehicle has a 44 kilowatt electric motor and lithium-ion battery and can travel 170km (105 miles) without recharging. It carries the Papal coat of arms on its doors. A blue version was also given to the Vatican’s police force fir use around the city.

Renault’s addition to the pope’s fleet will certainly contribute to the Benedict XVI’s reputation as ‘the green pope’. As well as being environmentally friendly, the car will help reduce transport costs too.
