About Plugged in Places Project

The Plugged in Places project

The EValu8 Plugged in Places scheme (PIP) aimed to install an operationally effective electric vehicle (EV) charging network across the East of England, using it as a test bed and innovation platform to build upon the region’s significant innovation capabilities and help catalyse the new global EV economy.

The first phase was a two year project from March 2011 to March 2013 to develop initial infrastructure and gain valuble insight into future the benefits of infrastructure on EV uptake. Deliverables

EValu8 has:

    • Installed an electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the East of England of over 350 charging points, linking in with charging networks in London, Milton Keynes and the Midlands
    • Generated confidence and interest from businesses and the public to prove that EVs are a viable alternative for a range of journey types
    • Provided a test bed for businesses to develop and test new technologies, products and services across the transport, built environment, digital and energy sectors.

This is a significant economic opportunity for the East of England’s many high-tech businesses. Already the East of England’s low carbon industry forms 9% of the UK market and is worth in excess of £10 billion.

Funding for 2013-14

Further funding for phase two of the East of England Plugged in Places scheme has been granted by OLEV.  This is focused on specific deliverables to improve driver experience and usage of the network.  Projects include links to car clubs, e-mobility hubs, further specific infrastructure grants and improvements to the Source East network.

Further Government Initiatives

In addition to the Plugged in Places funding, the government has announced further support measures particularly for areas outside currently funded regions.  For further information on these opportunities please contact EValu8.
