A team of Australian students have achieved a new world record in an EV.

Their Sunswift car is the fastest EV over 500km on a single charge with an average speed of 62mph. (FIA to confirm.)

The students are from UNSW’s Sunswift, Australia’s top solar car racing team. Their car eVe is the fifth to be built and raced since the team was founded in 1996. (PureGreenCars)

There are plans to for the car to meet Australia’s road registration requirements within a year.

The Sunswift team has already claimed the records of ‘fastest solar car’ (Guinness World Record) and ‘fastest powered road trip from Perth to Sydney.
