About Source East

Closure of Source East EV charging Network.

Over the last few years, EValu8 Transport Innovations Limited has worked with a number of partners to set up a free-to-use Electric Vehicle charging network, Source East, in the East of England as part of the Government’s Plugged-in-Places scheme. The Source East network has run much longer that the funded “Plugged-in-Place” programme. From August 2016, the staff and ongoing activity of EValu8 have been absorbed into UH Ventures Limited which is a larger company within the same group of University companies.

Over the last year we have been endeavouring with ChargePoint Services to move forward to a more commercial EV charging network. However, this inevitably leaves a number of legacy posts that cannot be brought into ChargePoint Services “GeniePoint Network”. While remaining in Source East, they have had to be free to use.  It is now time to change the way those existing legacy posts are managed before the end of the financial year (31st March 2017).

The hosts, who are the owners of the charging posts that have been installed as part of the Plugged-in-Places programme, there are just three options. The choice will depend on each Host’s own policy towards EV charging, the amount of use of each of the posts and of course, on budgets. Therefore the options to be decided before 1st April 2017 are as follows:

  • Discontinue provision of EV charging at some or all of the host’s sites
  • Go for a planned upgrade of the equipment
  • Liaise with the post manufacturer to set up an ongoing service contract

In addition to these rather stark choices information is being provided to users in parallel through Source East. This information will direct users/drivers to other means to access the EV chargers.
